We were hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year, and D thought that it would be lots of fun if we made our own placemats, so we went out and collected a TON of leaves, and then pasted them onto paper. We then went and collected a TON more leaves (really - you need a lot if you want to fully cover the paper!) and continued on. After making about 12 (we had other placemats to use as well), we decided that we were covered in enough glue and were done. I then laminated them and voila, instant placemats.
Note to self though, goes thru the laminator much better if ALL the glue is completely dry first. Ours wasn't, and glue was totally oozing all over the place as they were going thru. Quite a messy endeavor!
